President Donald Trump's attorney Jordan Sekulow assured Newsmax TV viewers on Tuesday that every potential angle is still being pursued in multiple states to contest election results and suggested critics were using semantics to claim there was no evidence of voting fraud.
Sekulow, the executive director of the public interest law firm the American Center for Law & Justice, outlined some of the still pending legal challenges in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Nevada. In Wisconsin, a key component of the lawsuit in that state refers to allegations that poll workers corrected absentee ballots for things such as missing signatures, instead of having the voter themselves correct them.
“Whether or not that’s fraud, or just conduct that is illegal under state law, and that’s different from just saying that something is fraudulent,” Sekulow said on “Spicer & Co.” “There can be violations under state law and the constitution. And I think that’s where the focus is right now.”
Allegations of fraud still exist. The director of the Amistad Project of the Thomas More Law Center claimed Tuesday that as many as 280,000 pre-marked ballots were transported by a postal service contractor in October from New York to Pennsylvania and then “disappeared.”
Regardless, Sekulow says every lead is being explored.
“We are still exploring every option available, working with states, state legislatures, state attorneys general, and we’re looking around country and just looking at all the constitutional options. I know there was a lot of confusion early on. It's an uphill battle. I mean courts are the place of last resort. They’re not the first place you start to win anything. They’re the place of last resort, and we say that as attorneys who make our living in court.
“But I want to tell everybody, we are up against a very tight timeline. We have to be realistic. Electors start getting selected on [Dec.] 8 and finalized on Dec. 14. So that’s the kind of timeline we’re fighting. We are still fighting the fight for them to make sure that the integrity of this election was protected.”
