"Selma" — the new movie about the Rev. Martin Luther King and his famous 1965 civil rights march — has some inaccuracies, but is still very worth seeing, King's niece Dr. Alveda King tells

"It has historic value. It's historically entertaining, heart stirring, and soul stirring," King said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"The challenge now is, will people go to the real history books? Will they examine the truth? Will it pique their interest? So I still suggest that people see it."
"Selma" — rated PG-13 for disturbing thematic material including violence, a suggestive moment, and brief strong language — stars David Oyelowo, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Oprah Winfrey opens in theaters Friday.
King said her uncle's campaign for equal voting rights with a huge march in Alabama from Selma to Montgomery should not be compared to the protests in Ferguson over the death of a black teenager by a white police officer.
"In Ferguson, the rioters, the outrage, and all of that, you ask those people what do they want? Then they say, 'what do we want? Dead cops.' So there's a total different feel to this.
"We were taught to be nonviolent and the outcome would be freedom and dignity for everyone. That's not a lot of what we were hearing from everyone, with Ferguson or New York."
