Trump administration officials working against the president, including two described in former United Nations Amb. Nikki Haley's book, are only "covering their butts for the future," Donald Trump Jr. told Newsmax TV on Thursday.
"You're not elected," Trump Jr., author of The New York Times best-seller "Triggered: How the Left Thrives on Hate and Wants to Silence Us" told "America Talks Live" host John Cardillo in an exclusive interview.
"You're put there by the president," his eldest son said. "You should probably be following his orders, not your own because you think you know better.
"That's the sad reality — and that’s what you have in D.C."
In her book, "With All Due Respect: Defending America With Grit and Grace," Haley, 47, the former South Carolina's Republican governor, alleged that ex-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and former White House Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly were actively working to undermine President Trump.
"Honestly," Trump Jr. told Cardillo of Haley's accusations, "based on what I see, it doesn’t surprise me at all."
The actions reflect the Washington "swamp" mentality, which is even more rancid now because "you have a unique individual who's running the country," Trump Jr. said.
Here is how he described the thinking: "'Well, in five years, when Trump leaves, when it goes back to business as usual, do I have to keep up my swamp relationships to make sure I get whatever job?
"'If I go all in on Trump and don't prevent what the Deep State wants me to do, does it create a problem?'" Trump Jr. posed.
"There are many people who do not serve him as well as they should," he continued. "They are not gonna do their jobs as described, because they are covering their butts for the future.
"And that's a true shame."
