The attack that killed three U.S. troops and wounded dozens more in Jordan was caused by the Biden administration and would not have happened under former President Donald Trump, Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., told Newsmax on Monday.
Although American forces in the Middle East have been attacked more than 150 times by Iran-backed forces in Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Yemen, U.S. servicemen had not been killed until Sunday's attack.
Tuberville said President Joe Biden and Democrats are to blame for the fatal drone strike after allowing Iran to access billions of dollars that had been frozen.
"This administration has caused this," Tuberville said on "National Report." "They have no way to get out of it. It's going to get worse.
"We all know that somebody's going to have a problem in terms of one of these bases, and we'll have another one in the short period of time. So, we've got to make decisions in the White House, but, as a Republican, we have no voice."
Tuberville said the U.S. needs to find out "for sure" that Iran backed the attack, though he added "it probably" was the Iranians, directly or through a proxy group.
"We need to find out who did it first, but the first thing we need to do is blockade. Don't let them have any more money. Take their all money away from them," Tuberville said. "Let's break them. That's what President Trump would do, but they'd have never done this under President Trump. They were scared to death of him. They're not scared of Joe Biden."
Tuberville was shown statements by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who said "Hit Iran now," and Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., who called for "devastating military retaliation against Iran's terrorist forces."
"Lindsay Graham doesn't have the power to tell anybody to hit anybody. He's a good guy, but he's a Republican like me. They're not going to listen to us," Tuberville said. "This is all on the Democrats. This is their policy. This is how they want to run it.
"They'll probably go out and bomb some small farm somewhere around Syria. It won't make any difference, just like they did in Yemen.
"We bombed places that have been bombed 10 years ago, so it's just it's just the policy that they have. They're scared to death that they will upset Iran because money somehow some way is making it back to somebody in the United States, and I don't know where it's coming from, or who's getting this money."
Tuberville also was asked about the supplemental bill — to aid Ukraine and firm up southern border policy — being negotiated in the Senate.
"There might have been one or two Democrats go down there [the border] in the last three years from the Senate side. They could care less," said Tuberville, who has joined Senate colleagues in visiting the U.S.-Mexico border.
"They do not want to do anything because, we know why ... I mean, it's all obvious. They need voters. But this is the most serious situation in my lifetime in this country because we know not who is here. We have terrorists coming across every day."
