The Republican National Convention was a "stark contrast" to the Democratic National Convention, which featured nothing but "Trump hatred" throughout the week, Tommy Hicks, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, told Newsmax TV.
"We had a great day. It was a stark contrast from what we saw last week with the Democrats who are basically united only in their hatred for Trump and their love for big government socialist programs," Hicks told Tuesday's "Spicer & Co."
By comparison, the Republicans talked about how policies of President Donald Trump have helped everyday people, in everyday circumstances, Hicks said.
"What we heard yesterday from the president and real Americans were stories about how the president's policies have actually helped real American people, their lives for better, and he's the right leader to take us forward over the next four years," Hicks said.
Day one of the RNC featured the father of Meadow Pollack, who was one of 14 students gunned down during the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Andrew Pollack said that Trump took action to help keep kids safe from future school shootings.
Praise for Trump also came from Georgia state Representative Vernon Jones, a Black Democrat who said he has been ostracized by members of his own party for openly supporting the president. Jones praised the strides Trump has made toward criminal justice reform and job creation.
"We're hearing from people all over the country — Republicans, Independents, Democrats — who think we did a great job of telling a story and making the case for President Trump," Hicks said. "We'll have four days of great narrative that talks about just how important it is we reelect this president."
