Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas told Newsmax on Wednesday that Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., will "put the American diplomatic agenda first" when he becomes the next secretary of state.

Earlier in the day, Rubio said during his confirmation hearing that he would put America's interests "above all else" and help implement President-elect Donald Trump's agenda.

"Placing our core national interests above all else is not isolationism," Rubio said in his opening statement adding, "It is the common-sense realization that a foreign policy centered on our national interest is not some outdated relic." Hunt said Rubio is "impressive" and "fit for the job."

"That's why this hearing went so well for him as well, because people know that he knows exactly what he's talking about. He is a statesman, and this is a very serious person that's going to put the American diplomatic agenda first. Isn't that what we all want? Isn't that what we voted for? And Marco Rubio, again, is fit for the job," Hunt said during an appearance on "Carl Higbie FRONTLINE."

The former U.S. Army captain said that he was impressed with all of Trump's picks in the first two days of hearings. "I was impressed yesterday with Pete Hegseth. And again, the America First agenda is going to move forward. And the people that President Trump has placed to do these jobs are exactly what the country needs to get back in shape," Hunt added.
