With thousands of Americans still trapped in Sudan amid a power struggle between two rival military factions that's threatening to intensify into a full-blown civil war, foreign affairs experts say the crisis may be another Afghanistan withdrawal debacle "in the making."

Governments worldwide are scrambling to safely evacuate their diplomats and citizens out of the hazardous environment, with many – including France, Germany, and Italy – deploying military transport aircraft to conduct rescue operations.
