Leading analysts warn the growing push to expand background checks to cover the private transfer of firearms misses a critical point: There is zero evidence the new laws would have stopped any of the high-profile active-shooter massacres that have occurred in recent years – including the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

Economist, author, and gun-rights activist John R. Lott tells Newsmax definitively: "There's not one mass public shooting this century that involved the private transfer of a gun.
