Biden 'Playing Identity Politics' With Diverse, Progressive Court Picks, Experts say

President Joe Biden may not be afforded the chance to appoint three justices to the country’s highest court like his predecessor, President Donald Trump, but he’s already jockeying to make his mark at the federal level.

Biden made at least a portion of his plan for the judiciary known on the campaign trail when he pledged to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court if given the opportunity. His first list of federal judicial nominees, which require Senate approval, indicates he is working quickly to keep that promise. His initial picks have diverse backgrounds in terms of ethnicity, religion, and professional experience.
