When packages laced with the precursors for ricin -- one of the deadliest toxins on the face of the earth -- triggered federal bioweapon alarms in mail-handling facilities throughout Washington, D.C., it only took the FBI a couple of days to apprehend a suspect.

One clue they soon discovered: Alleged perpetrator William Clyde Allen III of Utah, a Navy veteran with a history of making threats against government officials, possessed a receipt for two orders of castor beans he’d purchased on eBay.
