From movie theaters and movie studios to appliances and tech companies, China has been gobbling up large, mainstream American companies across a variety of sectors as it attempts to become the No. 1 world power.

China is vying to surpass the U.S. in tech and the economy while wielding its influence over American politics. To do so, China has spent years increasing its clout in the U.S. via investments, mergers, and acquisitions across a swath of industries including food, technology, media, and others. China hawks say it is a trend that needs to be put to an end.
