Expert: China Has Opened 'Sputnik-Like' Edge Over US in AI

Extraordinary Chinese advances in computers, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing signal a "Sputnik moment," insiders say, and America must sharply increase its research and development (R & D) spending if it hopes to keep pace with global rivals on the high-tech frontier.

Among China's recent, breathtaking scientific accomplishments: It has the world's fastest computer, the world's largest radio telescope, and the world's first satellite that uses a quantum communications technology believed to be impervious to data hacking or surveillance.
