Democratic lawmakers, angry that illegal immigrants are excluded from receiving the $1,200 checks going out to most Americans as part of the $2 trillion coronavirus relief measure, are trying to push legislation through Congress to open the program up to those who are not residing in the United States legally.
Republicans oppose those efforts, but at the the state and local level, some Democratic leaders plan to dole out benefits to illegals anyway.
