A new poll shows black Democratic women overwhelmingly support Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., for president over former Vice President Joe Biden.
Key results in the VoterLabs survey of black women regarding the Democratic race for president:
- Sanders has 28% support, compared to Biden's 14.5%.
- 12% said they are undecided, while Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif., garnered 6.9% and 6.1%, respectively. Harris, it's worth noting, has an Indian mother and a Jamaican father.
- 18% characterized Biden as "creepy" in response to the allegations that he has crossed the boundary with several women over the years by way of potentially inappropriate, but not illegal, conduct in public settings.
"What people didn't understand in 2016 is that black voters didn't dislike Sanders, they just had a much stronger affinity with Hillary Clinton due to her decades of working with various segments of the Democratic coalition, first as first lady, her husband Bill Clinton famously being called the 'first black president' by Toni Morrison, then as a political and diplomatic figure in her own right," VoterLabs CEO Walter Kawecki said.
The poll also questioned the respondents' feelings toward President Donald Trump:
- 29% had a favorable or neutral opinion of Trump.
- 16% said they "really like him" or "he's OK."
