House Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Adam Schiff said Friday that he reviewed documents that were "represented to me" as those seen secretly by Republican Chairman Devin Nunes in the probe of possible Russian dealings in the presidential election.

"My staff director and I reviewed materials at the White House complex, and it was represented to me that these are precisely the same materials that were provided to the chairman over a week ago," Schiff, the California Democrat, said in a statement.

"I cannot discuss the contents of the documents," he said. "If the White House had any concern over these materials, they should have been shared with the full committee in the first place as part of our ordinary oversight responsibilities."

Schiff added that the documents provided did not justify the Trump administration not providing them to his committee in the first place and questioned why staffers shared the data with Nunes first.

Schiff issued the statement after spending about three hours on the White House grounds viewing the document, CNN reports.
