House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., said Monday at least some members of the conservative Freedom Caucus will be voting for the GOP healthcare bill after changes were made.
Freedom Caucus chairman Rep. Mark Meadows said earlier Monday none of his group's 40 members planned to vote for the plan because not enough changes had been made.
But Ryan, appearing later on Fox News' "Hannity," said he has spoken with several members of the caucus and "a lot of Freedom Caucus members who are voting for it" after "the work requirements and additional layers of federalism" were added.
Some members already have voted the bill out of committee, and one who voted against it in committee now has changed his mind and favors it, Ryan said.
Further, he said, the Republican Study Committee, the largest conservative caucus in the House, favors the bill as well.
"We feel very good, and it is because we have been negotiating and listening to one another, improving this bill, making refinements to it so we can get to the sweet spot of the consensus-building that can pass," he said.
