Former Vice President Al Gore announced Monday he will vote for Hillary Clinton in November.

Gore, who served under President Bill Clinton, is not at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia this week. But that didn't stop him from tweeting his support for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

Politico reported Sunday that Gore would not attend the convention, citing "obligations in Tennessee." What also played a role in his decision to skip Clinton's coronation as presidential nominee, according to that report, is his rocky relationship with the former first lady that is rooted in the first years of the Clinton administration.

Last November, Gore told Politico he would hold off on endorsing a candidate until the party had a nominee.

The first day of the Philadelphia convention has been marred by an email hacking scandal that implied the Democratic party helped Clinton receive more support than her challenger, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
