Two liberal groups have pulled their endorsement of Rep. Alan Grayson in the Democratic Senate primary in Florida amid domestic abuse allegations Tuesday,
Politico reported.
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America issued a
joint statement which marks the first time either group has withdrawn an endorsement:
"After today's revelations of years of police reports about allegations of domestic abuse involving Alan Grayson, we are no longer willing to support and are formally withdrawing our endorsement of him in the race for U.S. Senate.
"Unfortunately, this deeply disappointing revelation means progressives have no great options in the Florida race for Senate." — Charles Chamberlain, Executive Director, DFA; Stephanie Taylor, Co-Founder, PCCC; Adam Green, Co-Founder, PCCC.
Lolita Grayson, the Democrat's ex-wife, claimed decades of abuse,
providing documentation to Politico, she went to the police multiple times, including an instance in which he threatened to kill her.
The congressman denied the allegations and has claimed Lolita Grayson battered him in 2014 in an annulment she is now appealing,
according to Politico.
Alan Grayson has remarried and his wife, Dr. Dena Minning, is running for his vacated Representative seat in Florida.
A video surfaced that shows him
threatening a reporter when asked about the abuse allegation.
