Democrat Rep. Alan Grayson of Florida used an interesting choice of words when talking about his plans to run for Marco Rubio's Senate seat in the 2016 election this week.

"Frankly, one reason why Democrats are willing to crawl over hot coals naked to vote for me is because I'm willing to tell the truth," Grayson told NBC News

Grayson said his name recognition alone is enough to get him elected to the Senate chamber. Rubio, a Republican, is running for president and does not plan to run for re-election in the Senate, regardless of the outcome of the presidential race.

"I have the highest name recognition of any candidate in the Senate race, and I'm winning against all of the Republicans in three polls," Grayson said. "I'm going to win. I'll tell you, those people who are saying anything else are simply blind to the facts."

Grayson said the national Democrats' favorite for the party's representative in the Senate race, Rep. Patrick Murphy, is "nominally and theoretically a Democrat." Murphy was a Republican before switching sides when he joined the 2012 Congressional race.

Grayson has a history of saying outlandish things, such as comparing the tea party to the Klu Klux Klan in 2013. During his 2010 campaign, Grayson tried to compare his Republican challenger to a member of the Taliban

A 2009 New York Times story carried the headline, "Alan Grayson, the Liberals' Problem Child."

Grayson, however, thinks the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) needs to consider putting its weight behind his Senate bid.

"They need a great deal of self-examination at this point," Grayson told NBC. "This is an open seat, we're talking about an open seat. In the last cycle the DSCC lost every single open seat in the entire country except for one.

"In essence the DSCC is committing campaign malpractice every day and they really need to think hard about the decisions that they're making every day."

A Politico story in May claimed Grayson's girlfriend is considering running for his House seat that will be up for grabs next year.
