Many voters in Alaska have a low opinion of President Barack Obama and Obamacare, likely leading to Republican challenger Dan Sullivan taking a 4-percentage point advantage over Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Begich in the upcoming midterm election,
a new Fox Poll shows.
The poll of 706 likely voters from Oct. 4-7 also showed that more Republicans are "extremely" interested than Democrats in the election, by 42 to 29 percent, and 86 percent of each candidate's supporters are certain to vote for their candidate in the Nov 4. election.
Men questioned in the survey, which had a margin of error of 3.5 points, backed Sullivan by a 14-point margin, while women supported Begich by 5 points.
Campaign ads — what many apparently consider attack ads — are also
making an impact with Alaska's voters. Begich has already had to pull a highly criticized television ad, with Sullivan pulling his response to that ad.
Fifty-three percent of the voters surveyed complained Begich is attacking Sullivan unfairly, while 40 percent said Sullivan's attacks are unfair.
The poll also revealed that incumbent Republican Gov. Sean Parnell is ahead of nonaffiliated candidate Bill Walker 42 percent to 37 percent, with one in five voters either undecided or planning to vote for somebody else.
