The National Republican Congressional Committee is targeting Florida liberal Alex Sink with an advertisement that casts her as a "tax-and-spend" candidate and an avid supporter of Obamacare.

The former Florida chief financial officer is campaigning for the 13th Congressional District seat left vacant by the death of long-time Republican Rep. C.W. "Bill" Young. The district is within the Tampa Bay area's Pinellas County.

The NRCC's spot released Wednesday scoffs at Sink's "cute" recent ad in which she and her father sally back and forth about her decision to run in the special election, reports The Tampa Bay Times.

It then slams Sink about her record of "supporting higher taxes for Florida families so big government can continue to spend, spend, spend," said a release on the NRCC website.

The ad also blasts Sink for her record of supporting Obamacare, which the NRCC says is "causing pain for Pinellas County families and seniors. The $230,000 radio and television ad buy is the first in a series of spots costing $725,000 that the NRCC plans to run in fighting the Sink campaign.

"Alex Sink has a history of hurting Florida families," said NRCC spokeswoman Katie Prill. "Not only does this tax-and-spend liberal continue to support higher taxes for Florida families, but she also continues to support Obamacare, which is causing Pinellas families to lose their healthcare coverage. Alex Sink is a risk Pinellas County just can't afford."

Sink, 65, lost the 2010 gubernatorial race in a close battle with Republican Rick Scott.

She said last fall when announcing her candidacy that she is moving to Clearwater from her home in Thonotosassa, about 45 minutes outside the district, so she can run for the congressional seat.
