New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo isn't worried about a poll this week that gives neighboring New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie slightly higher ratings when comes to a possible presidential run — because he says he "apparently" isn't running, anyway.
The Siena Research Institute Poll showed Cuomo's job-performance at an all-time low, reports The Buffalo News. Further, the poll said, Christie would defeat Cuomo by a 47 percent to 42 percent margin if both men ran for president.
"It said Chris Christie has better numbers for president than I do," said New York's Democratic governor. "Yeah, because he's running for president, and I am not."
The poll also gave Christie a 63 percent favorable rating in New York, compared to 61 percent for Cuomo.
A better comparison would have been between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Christie, said Cuomo.
“Hillary Clinton is ‘apparently’ running for president of the United States, and I should also say Chris Christie is ‘apparently’ running for president of the United States,” Cuomo said. “I – very apparently – am not.”
Cuomo is being pushed by a New York group to seek the Democratic nomination,
reports The Hill, but he said he's more focused on winning his reelection campaign in 2014. He has been governor of New York since 2010.
According to The Hill, Cuomo's father, New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, was also urged to run for president back in 1988 and 1992, and at one time was considered a favorite for the Democratic ticket, before the election cycles began. But he ended up not running either time.
The younger Cuomo also
told the New York Post in April that he would not run for president if Clinton, who has not formally announced a bid, plans to run.
