Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci joined the list of prognosticators about the 2018 midterm elections, maintaining Republicans would "keep the House and Senate" when voters go to the polls later this year, The Hill reported Saturday.

Scaramucci, who served in the White House for 10 days last year before resigning due to an expletive-laden interview he gave with a magazine, has remained a supporter of President Donald Trump. He credited Trump's policies as the reason he thought Republicans would prevail in the midterm elections.

"I really do believe that we're going to keep the House and Senate for so many different reasons, but the main one ... it'll be the president's plan, the implementation of the tax cut, the implementation of the ideas that are getting America restarted and America growing again," Scaramucci told Fox News Saturday.

The president had his first major legislative victory since taking office when the GOP tax overhaul passed Congress in December. He has promoted it as a win for middle-class Americans, many of whom are seeing tax cuts reflected in larger paychecks.

The U.S. economy has also been on an upswing since Trump became president with the stock market recording its highest numbers in history and employers announcing they were expanding jobs. However, when looking to history as a guide where elections are concerned, the party that controls the White House often loses seats in midterms.

Republicans are hopeful the tax cuts, strong economic numbers and Trump's recent bump up in approval ratings will translate into legislative wins in the fall. Democrats have made much of a "blue wave" they've predicted taking place this fall, claiming they will recapture control of Congress due to the unpopularity of Trump's policies.

Past polls indicated voters were leaning toward Democrats in the fall elections, but five recent generic ballot polls showed that lead may be shrinking by as much as half over poll numbers released in December, according to an analysis of data by RealClearPolitics.
