The Tennessee Baptist Convention has voted to "work vigorously" in supporting a state constitutional amendment on abortion.
The vote came during a meeting of the statewide organization of 3,000 churches associated with the Southern Baptist Convention,
the Tennessean reports.
The TBC and other conservative groups are working to get a proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot in November 2014.
The amendment would add a provision to the Tennessee constitution stating abortion rights are not protected.
It would overturn a 2000 Tennessee Supreme Court ruling that the state constitution gives greater protection for abortion than the U.S. Constitution, the newspaper said.
