A mom can change her mind – and that's exactly what former first lady Barbara Bush did Friday, recanting her declaration there'd been quite
"enough Bushes" in the White House, and giving her blessing to son Jeb's likely presidential bid.
The announcement came as the former Florida governor was welcoming guests to the 15th annual Celebration of Reading, a literacy charity event sponsored by the Barbara Bush Foundation, in Bonita Springs, Fla.,
The Washington Post reports.
As Jeb Bush recalled his mother's 2013 admonition about not wanting an addition to the Bush White House legacy, Barbara Bush loomed overhead on two jumbo screens with a Skype confession.
"Jeb!" Jeb, it’s Mom," Barbara Bush announced. "Listen, what do you mean, 'too many Bushes'?… I changed my mind!"
Gala guests burst into applause, The Post reports.
The nation’s problems were so big, "it doesn’t matter what your last name is," she added.
"Hey, Mom, can I get that in writing?" Jeb Bush joked, gushing: "Mother, I love you. You’re the greatest mother in the world."
Barbara Bush then delivered her second surprise.
"Look who I've got with me tonight," she teased, moving her computer camera across the room to focus on husband and former president George H.W. Bush, who beamed at the crowd.
The Bushes remained connected on Skype for the remainder of the dinner event, The Post reports.
