Alaska Sen. Begich: Palin Has 'Lost Touch' With Alaska

On Wednesday, Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, said former governor Sarah Palin “quit on Alaska” when she left the office in mid-term and is not sure she’s even a resident of the state, Politico reports.

Begich was responding to comments made by Palin Tuesday to Fox News’
Sean Hannity.

The former 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate said Begich is on “the wrong side of the aisle” because he votes with Democratic leadership, calling it “nothing new.”

Palin added that Begich “needs to be replaced.”

Begich fired back on Wednesday wondering if Palin was still a resident of the Land of the Midnight Sun and if she was still connected to the goings-on in the state.

“I don’t know if she’s a resident,” Begich said.“She’s been away from Alaska a lot and has probably lost touch with what’s going on. She should go to my webpage. Most Alaskans I see on a pretty regular basis, but I haven’t seen her for a long time.”

Begich said his campaign would not take Palin’s challenge seriously unless she can handle Joe Miller and Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell in a GOP primary.

“A Republican primary in Alaska? She may not survive,” Begich said.

Begich, a former mayor of Anchorage who has known Palin for years. But there’s no love lost between the two.

“I take every candidate seriously,” Begich said. “That is, if she’s still a resident, but you know she quit on Alaska when she was governor. She’s been somewhat vacant from the state and quit on the state, so I wish her the best on her potential run.”

Palin is currently registered to vote in Wasilla, Alaska, the town where she once served as mayor.
