Ben Quayle, the 33-year-old Republican nominee in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, may have his sights set far above the House. When former Vice President Dan Quayle made fundraising calls to top Republican donors on behalf of his son this year, he told them the House seat could serve as a stepping stone for Ben,
Politico reports.
The next step would be the Senate and then, possibly the White House. Dan Quayle isn’t the only one planning big things for Ben. Other Republicans see a lofty future for him, too. “The reason this seat is so important is because its holder is an automatic candidate for the U.S. Senate,” GOP strategist Marcus Dell’Artino, a partner at Phoenix-based FirstStrategic, told Politico.
Ben is a heavy favorite to capture the House election against Democrat Jon Hulburd next month.
Dan Quayle was elected to Congress at the age of 29, to the Senate four years later, and vice president at 41.
