Democrats manipulated the media and almost everyone else by claiming President Donald Trump had ties to Russia, when in fact it appears the Democrats did, economist Ben Stein said.
"They managed to muddy the waters on this completely, and the media bought it hook, line, and sinker," Stein, the author of the new book, "The Capitalist Code: It Can Save Your Life and Make You Very Rich," said during a Thursday evening appearance on Fox Business Network.
After a scandalous dossier containing unverified claims about Trump was published by BuzzFeed News in early January, it was reported this week the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign paid for the document to be compiled by a former British intelligence agent.
Stein said the media and even the FBI played right into the hands of Democrats. Trump has denied having any improper ties to Russia.
"The amazing thing is that [special counsel for the Russia investigation Robert] Mueller and the FBI and all these people, [former FBI Director James] Comey, bought every single bit of it, and the media bought every single bit of it," Stein said. "The mainstream media said Trump, Russian agent, Trump Russian agent, Trump, Russian agent, when it was the Democrats manipulating the whole thing. Why aren't they saying the Democrats are Russian agents? Why are they holding back on that?"
