Sen. Bernie Sanders may ask for the removal of Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz in exchange for dropping out of the presidential race,
Fox News reports.
That deal could be discussed at during Sanders' closed door powwow Thursday at the White House with President Barack Obama and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.
One Democratic lawmaker told Fox: "I don't see how she makes it through the convention. "The key to Hillary winning is getting Sanders supporters on board."
Sanders' vow to remain in the contest for the Democratic presidential nomination — even though Hillary Clinton has the support of enough delegates to win it at the party's upcoming convention — is a bone of contention for many Democrats who want a unified party to take on Donald Trump.
In one scenario that would roil the convention, Sanders could ask for a full roll-call vote, with his delegates trying to nominate him from the floor.
According to
The New York Times, Sanders has stayed in the race to flex his influence as "the leader of a political movement" and change to Democratic primary rules, including the elimination of superdelegates.
For now, Wasserman Schultz, who has butted heads with Sanders in the past few months, still has the White House. Obama also endorsed her earlier this year in her House primary battle.
