Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. said Friday if other nations are able to provide their citizens with quality healthcare, the United States can too.
Sanders is a self-described socialist who is a registered independent, although he caucuses with Democrats. He tweeted his thoughts regarding healthcare Friday afternoon.
The healthcare debate has raged for years in Washington, D.C. It took on new life this year because Republicans control the White House and both houses of Congress, but Republicans were unable to pass legislation last month that would have repealed and/or replaced the 2010 Obamacare law.
Sanders wants to see the government provide free healthcare for all Americans in a single-payer system — an idea that is unlikely to go anywhere with GOP lawmakers holding the majority.
