Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday ripped President-elect Donald Trump on Republican plans to repeal Obamacare and make cuts to Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare.
Sanders, the independent who lost the Democratic presidential nomination to Hillary Clinton last year, slammed Trump on Twitter:
Congress moved Tuesday to begin the legislative process to repeal the Affordable Care Act — President Barack Obama's signature domestic legislative achievement — and Trump cautioned Republicans on Wednesday to "be careful" in their efforts and to not let Democrats off the hook for the beleaguered program.
Vice President-elect Mike Pence told Republicans privately Wednesday that Trump would issue executive orders on his first day in office that would seek to ensure the insurance marketplace is not disrupted by an outright Obamacare repeal.
House Speaker Paul Ryan also said legislators would focus on maintaining patient care.
