After his poor debate debut, Mike Bloomberg has no path to the Democratic nomination, save for working to stop Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who would suffer the "worst presidential defeat" since George McGovern in 1972, according to former Clinton guru Dick Morris.
"Let me be clear: Bernie will get massacred by Trump," Morris told "The Cats Roundtable" on 970 AM-N.Y. "We're not talking about a minor defeat here. We're talking about taking back the House. I think in the Senate [the GOP will win] up to 60 seats.
"I think that Bernie will get destroyed."
With Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., not yet willing to surrender her progressive voter share to Sanders by dropping out, the field is doing just enough to keep Democrats from taking a majority candidate into the Democratic National Convention, according to Morris.
"Hillary and Bloomberg have gotten together and cooked up a scheme," he said.
It might even open a door for Hillary Clinton to rise to the nomination in a brokered convention, which could become a possibility after Super Tuesday, Morris surmised.
"When they get into Super Tuesday next week, you're going to see Sanders getting about 40% of the vote," Morris told host John Catsimatidis, adding, "then Bloomberg, who has no chance to win now – because he got clobbered in the debate and completely blew it – is staying in the race, is going to continue to spend money. His goal now is to get roughly 15% of the vote."
Ultimately, that will be just enough to keep Sanders under 50% of the party's delegates and bringing super delegates at the DNC into play, Morris concluded.
