Donald Trump may get "a second look" from voters after expressing "regret" Thursday about some of his explosive remarks during the campaign — and "I think this is going to travel well," former Education Secretary Bill Bennett said.
"Put in the context of the last three speeches, this is very strong," Bennett, who served in the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations, told Martha MacCallum on Fox News. "I think he still has a very good shot at being president.
"People might now give Donald Trump a second look."
Bennett voiced his support for the Republican nominee, noting that the Trump campaign is spending advertising money in battleground states and making other positive moves.
"Let's get behind this guy," he told MacCallum. "A barrage of advertising, which he has not had his own advertising, in the battleground states.
"I think you're going to see a shift," Bennett added. "But the most encouraging shift is from the candidate himself."
