Sen. Bob Corker, a frequent critic of President Donald Trump, might be retiring this year, but he is not going down without a fight — one aimed at President Trump's proposed steel and aluminum tariffs.

He announced, via Twitter, he is working on a plan to challenge the enactment of tariffs on U.S. allies with the help of Senate Republicans, and even calling on Democrats to join the resistance.

That tweet came Saturday after Corker tweeted out a pair of stories from The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.

The Journal's editorial board criticized President Trump's lifting of tariff exemptions on U.S. "best friends" from the European Union, Canada, and Mexico, while the Post claimed President Trump is being selective in determining "the winners and losers in the economy."

President Trump explained his administration's goals with the tariffs, which is to correct trade imbalances the U.S. has permitted countries to hold over it for years, calling it "not Free or Fair Trade, it is Stupid Trade."

Then, perhaps responding to Sen. Corker's promise of obstruction of President Trump's use potential tariffs as leverage in trade negotiations, President Trump tweeted a rebuke of the Journal editorial board's position against them.
