Former University of Indiana basketball coach Bobby Knight will campaign with Donald Trump on Wednesday, ahead of Indiana's May 3 primary, Politico reports.

Trump has put on a full-court press in an effort to get Knight's endorsement.

"Tough, strong, smart. I would like to get that for Indiana, I’ll tell you what," Trump said this past weekend. "To me, that would be a great endorsement."

Trump also noted during a campaign stop in Rhode Island on Monday he hoped to sign Knight on to Team Trump.

Knight will campaign with Trump at Indiana Farmers Coliseum a week ahead of the Indiana primary, The Hill reports.

Knight has long talked up Trump, saying over speakerphone in the hearing of a New York Times reporter that, "No one has accomplished more than Mr. Trump has." He also said during a public event, "I damn sure don’t want to be listening to Hillary [Clinton] for the next four years."

Trump and Knight are both known for their bombast. Knight once threw a chair in an angry outburst during an Indiana game.

Other sports figures who have backed Trump include former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, boxer Mike Tyson and professional wrestler Hulk Hogan.

Trump leads Ted Cruz by more than 6 points in Indiana, but Cruz and John Kasich announced Sunday, that Kasich will stop campaign efforts in the state, essentially ceding it to Cruz, in exchange for Cruz doing the same in New Mexico and Oregon.
