While a large majority Democrats approve of President Joe Biden's flooded border, a majority of American adults disapprove, according to the latest ABC News/The Washington Post poll.
There were 53% who disapproved of Biden's handling of the influx of illegal border crossers, including 44% who strongly disapproved among the poll's adults.
But 64% of Democrats at least somewhat approved of scores of migrants cramming into facilities in violation of COVID-19 guidelines on social distancing, compared to just 10% of Republicans.
Also, the poll found a majority of Americans (53%) are concerned Biden is going to "do too much to increase the size and role of government in the U.S.," including 32% very concerned. But that, too, did not resonate with Democrats (just 6% very concerned and 18% somewhat concerned.)
Despite the economy rebounding from the global coronavirus pandemic lockdowns, a large majority of U.S. adults have a "negative" view of the economic conditions right now (58%), as even a majority of Democrats (51%) see the Biden economy in a negative light, according to the poll.
Despite those views, Biden does score well overall in job approval (52% to 42%), economy approval (52%-41%), coronavirus response approval (64%-31%) in the poll.
Notably, Biden's $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan has 52% support compared to 35% opposition in the poll.
The Washington Post/ABC poll surveyed 1,007 U.S. adults between April 18-21 and with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
