After an internal report by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security revealed Thursday that President Donald Trump's "wall" along the U.S.-Mexico border would cost as much as $21.6 billion, Trump took to Twitter Saturday insisting that the price will "come way down" once he get's involved in negotiations.

In a series of tweets Trump wrote:

"I am reading that the great border WALL will cost more than the government originally thought, but I have not gotten involved in the . . . design or negotiations yet. When I do, just like with the F-35 FighterJet or the Air Force One Program, price will come WAY DOWN!"

The report's estimated price-tag is much higher than a $12-billion figure cited by Trump in his campaign and will be a series of fences and walls covering more than 1,250 miles by the end of  2020.

Trump has consistently promised that Mexico will be paying for the border wall, however, Mexican leaders have repeatedly refused.
