President Donald Trump slammed Democrats for holding up his Cabinet confirmations — after Betsy DeVos was approved after a rare tie-breaking vote by Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump took to Twitter:
DeVos, 59, was confirmed 51-50 after Pence cast the deciding vote in the Senate.
Two Republican senators, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, joined with Democrats to oppose the nomination.
Democrats also debated the nomination all night in an apparent attempt to get at least one more senator to break party ranks.
DeVos was later sworn into office by Pence.
The Senate has yet to hold confirmation votes on Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general, GOP Rep. Tom Price of Georgia as health secretary and financier Steven Mnuchin as treasury secretary.
