Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., said the deal President-elect Donald Trump reached with Carrier to keep 1,100 jobs in Indiana signaled "there is a new sheriff in town."

"It's a great step forward," the New York Republican told Jim Sciutto on CNN's "The Lead" on Thursday. "What Donald Trump is doing is he's sending a signal that there is a new sheriff in town — and that he's going to do it his way and that it's going to work.

"It's sending a signal to corporations, sending a signal to the American people that he will do things differently from other presidents," he added. "And, he will get it done."

Trump and Carrier officials announced the air-conditioning plant would not move to Mexico and 1,100 jobs would remain in Indianapolis.

Carrier's parent company, United Technologies, also said it would invest $16 million to upgrade the factory.

King also slammed Sen. Bernie Sanders', I-Vt., op-ed piece in The Washington Post slamming the Carrier deal, calling it "the ultimate in Bernie begrudgery."

"The fact is Donald Trump is saving the jobs," he told Sciutto. "Bernie Sanders chased Hillary Clinton around talking about how we have to save jobs for American workers.

"Donald Trump has done it.

"This is the first day. He is the president-elect, not even the president yet — and already he's out there saving jobs, showing it can be done.

"It's important for those 1,000 people and also a great symbol that Donald Trump is serious," King said. "Donald Trump will find a way to get it done.

"When you make a deal, you make a deal. It will be made one way or the other.

"I wish Bernie Sanders would say: 'Hey, the president-elect got off to a good start. I'll support him when I can.'

"But instead, this is the blind Bernie begrudgery," the congressman said. "I sort of regret the fact that Bernie Sanders couldn't be more magnanimous."
