Despite a history that says otherwise, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been highly critical of Donald Trump in recent months, blasting his views on trade and job creation.

According to a New York Times report, the two parties used to get along well. But things changed when Trump joined the race for president last summer.

The more outspoken he's become, the more the Chamber and its President Thomas Donohue have criticized the now presumptive Republican nominee.

The chamber takes a page from Trump's book and criticizes Trump and his policy views on Twitter.

Donohue was critical of the real estate mogul in January when he called out the "loud voices" in the campaign, and two months later he had more criticism for the man who has surprised almost everyone as he prepares to be named his party's nominee.

And in June, the chamber live-tweeted its reactions to a Trump speech that focused on trade and international business.

Trump had some words of his own for the chamber the next day.

The chamber typically supports right-leaning candidates for office, although it does break from that and back Democrats as well.

According to Open Secrets, the chamber spent $11.6 million for Republicans in the 2014 midterm election and $1.4 million against Democrats.
