CHICAGO (AP) — Rahm Emanuel says he's headed into the final days before the Feb. 22 Chicago mayoral election with an increasingly busy schedule.
Emanuel told The Associated Press on Saturday he's working to meet as many voters as he can as polls show him nearing the votes he needs to win the mayor's race outright. Emanuel needs 50 percent of the vote plus one vote to avoid a runoff.
The former White House chief of staff says he told his staff not to "spike the ball on the 20-yard line."
He's one of six candidates running to replace the retiring Mayor Richard Daley, who didn't seek a seventh term.
Other candidates include former schools chief Gery Chico, former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun and City Clerk Miguel del Valle.
