A junior Democratic senator said President Donald Trump is wrong to say that a Republican healthcare bill covers pre-existing conditions.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., replied to a Trump tweet supporting a bill put forth by Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bill Cassidy, R-La.:

The bill would give federal grant money to states, who would then build their own health insurance platforms. Many Republicans say it does enough to repeal and replace Obamacare and that it would lower costs at the consumer level. Democrats and other opponents of the legislation are concerned about whether it would cover pre-existing conditions and whether it would put caps on coverage.

Murphy continued to criticize the bill Thursday morning before he visited community health centers in his state.

The Senate may vote on the bill next week ahead of a Sept. 30 deadline to pass it via a simple majority.
