New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie is gaining the backing of a large number of Democrats and independents in his re-election bid this year.
Christie is seemingly cruising to victory with a margin of 32 percentage points over Democratic state Sen. Barbara Buono, including gaining 64 percent of independents and, in a big surprise, 30 percent of Garden State Democrats, according to a recent Quinnipiac University poll,
Most stunning of all is that four elected Democratic mayors have now endorsed Christie. The latest is Manville Mayor Angelo Corradino, who praised the governor's handling of Hurricane Sandy last year. In addition, one of the state's most powerful Democrats, Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo is reportedly pondering an endorsement of Christie.
