Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said Friday the Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg should not be filled until there is a new president.
Schumer tweeted:
"The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president."
That tweet preceded one where Schumer backpedaled to stop to mourn the loss of a legend of the Court:
"Tonight, we mourn the passing of a giant in American history, a champion for justice, a trailblazer for women. She would want us all to fight as hard as we can to preserve her legacy."
