Donald Trump reportedly called the CNN control room Monday morning in what one correspondent called an effort to "manipulate coverage."

Trump contacted CNN after Fox News aired an interview with one of his ex-girlfriends that refuted parts of a New York Times story that accused him of being disrespectful toward women.

"Only a few minutes after that interview on Fox this morning, this woman was interviewed on Fox in the 7 a.m. hour, Trump called into CNN's "New Day" control room," CNN correspondent Brian Stelter said.

"He wasn't gonna go on the air. In fact, we asked if he would go on air, the producers were asking him and he said said he wouldn't go on air, but he wanted to make sure the producers of "New Day" had seen the interview on Fox, on the rival network, so they could cover the interview."

According to Mediaite, Stelter added Trump's call was an attempt to "try and manipulate coverage."

Trump blasted The New York Times story, and a woman who was featured prominently throughout the piece said her words were taken out of context.

"They spun it to where it appeared negative. I did not have a negative experience with Donald Trump," Rowanne Brewer Lane told "Fox & Friends" Monday morning.
