Donald Trump's campaign may put New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in charge of the GOP nominee's preparations for his upcoming debate with Hillary Clinton, CNN reports.
Christie is an old ally of Trump – one of "the few" in his inner circle who's been straight with him – and was "brutally honest" about his shortcomings in the first debate, CNN reports, citing an unnamed source.
Christie, however, told CNN he hadn't been asked "to do anything new, and as far as I know, there is no new debate prep scheduled."
Campaign manager Kellyanne Conway also told the network the governor is "not currently under consideration."
The second presidential matchup will be Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis; the third and final debate is set for Oct. 19 at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.
