Presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden has the edge over President Donald Trump, according to CNN’s poll of polls released Friday.
CNN took an average of the five most recent national telephone polls, which asked registered voters who they plan to vote for on Election Day.
Poll results show:
- 51% of registered voters say they plan to vote for Joe Biden.
- 41% of registered voters say they plan to reelect Trump on Election Day.
The results show a boost for Biden since April’s CNN Poll of Polls. In April, the poll of polls showed 48% of voters backed Biden and 43% supported Trump.
Three of the five polls CNN used took place after the death of George Floyd. Floyd, a black man, was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis. His death has caused anti-police brutality protests to erupt all over the country. Trump has faced criticism for his law and order approach to handling demonstrations that turn violent and destructive.
The other two polls asked questions focused on the president’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Poll of Polls includes results from the NPR/PBS Newshour/Marist College poll conducted June 2-3, the Monmouth University poll conducted May 28-June 1, the ABC News/Washington Post poll conducted May 25-28, the Fox News poll conducted May 17-20 and the Quinnipiac University poll conducted May 18. The Poll of Polls does not have a margin of sampling error.
