House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Congress as a whole fared poorly in a new opinion poll, with a growing number of Americans holding negative views of them.
Key results from The Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey:
- 20 percent of those surveyed approve of the job Congress is doing, compared to the almost three-quarters who disapprove.
- Congress' disapproval rating has gone up 12 points since February.
- 40 percent have a negative view of Ryan, compared to 22 percent who have the opposite opinion of him.
In the February WSJ/NBC News poll, Ryan's disapproval rating was just one point shy of his approval rating, marking a drastic shift in Americans' views of him.
Last month, Ryan and other top Republicans failed to secure enough support for the House GOP's Obamacare replacement bill and had to cancel a planned vote.
A Pew Research Center poll last week, meanwhile, found just 29 percent of Americans approve of Ryan's job performance — a new low for him.
