Pennsylvania's special election Democratic Senate candidate Conor Lamb declared victory early Wednesday morning, but no news organizations were calling the tight election yet.
After being introduced as the congressman-elect, Lamb told raucus supporters, "It took a little longer than we thought, but we did it. You did it."
MSNBC host Brian Williams broke in to note that no news organizations were declaring him the winner.
Earlier at Lamb's headquarters, Allegheny County's executive Rich Fitzgerald told the crowd to "hang in there."
"We have a still few votes to count," Fitzgerald said, ABC News reported. "Conor is just so grateful for everybody’s support. This campaign is really about the grassroots."
He also pleaded with the crowd to stay at the party.
"Hang in there; we still have a little bit of a ways to go. We don't want anyone to go home yet."
