Conservatives Mock Rachel Maddow: 'Al Capone's Secret Vault'

The release of President Donald Trump's 2005 tax return on MSNBC's "Rachel Maddow Show" Tuesday night was more "nothing burger" than bombshell, according to conservative commentators.

Tweeted reaction from both conservative – and liberal – pundits were unimpressed, including conservative radio talk show host Howie Carr.

Did Trump cheat on his taxes? Oh no, that was Tim Geitner, Obama's Treasury Secretary. This story is a nothing burger.

Conservative Review columnist and CRTV host Steve Deace slammed Maddow for the overblown buildup.

Geraldo called, and has invited Rachel Maddow to join him from Al Capone's secret vault for her next show.

And even Glenn Greenwald, Intercept journalist who as a Guardian reporter released some of the documents CIA secrets leaker Edward Snowden obtained, was unimpressed.

So Trump apparently paid 25% income tax rate overall in federal taxes in 2005. Low, but higher than Romney or many finance tycoons.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Maddow has recently been enjoying a massive ratings bump, outrating every other primetime show last week. The left-leaning host beat her direct conservative competition, Fox News' Tucker Carlson, by 14 percent in the targeted news demo of 25-54 year old adults.
